Canoe trip with Neil McNeil High School

All of us at the Inner City Outtripping Centre would like to thank the staff and students of Neil McNeil High School for a fantastic canoe trip! We hope that we were able to contribute to your leadership training program.

We also hope to see some of you at our summer Leadership Program (we're still accepting applications - contact us for more information).

If you would like to see photos of our trip, email Elizabeth at innercityouttripping@gmail.com.

Clean-up day

Our spring-summer season began today with a clean-up at Sunnyside. We swept away the winter grime and inspected all our gear. Our staff are getting everything ready for next week's Paddle & Picnic orientation day and TROOP orientation trip...our first canoe trip of the year!

North Canoes

The TROOP (stands for Toronto Police Service Recreational Outreach Outtripping Program) and the Paddle & Picnic programs use north canoes like these:

These are traditional canoes, like the ones used in the fur trade. These boats historically were made out of birch bark, but the ICOC canoes are made of fibreglass. The north canoes are about 26 feet long and can be heavy to portage (which means to carry between bodies of water, or around obstacles like rapids or waterfalls).
