North Canoes

The TROOP (stands for Toronto Police Service Recreational Outreach Outtripping Program) and the Paddle & Picnic programs use north canoes like these:

These are traditional canoes, like the ones used in the fur trade. These boats historically were made out of birch bark, but the ICOC canoes are made of fibreglass. The north canoes are about 26 feet long and can be heavy to portage (which means to carry between bodies of water, or around obstacles like rapids or waterfalls).
